About This Workshop
Filmmaking Essentials is a one-day, 4-hour beginner workshop that introduces you to how films are planned, shot, and edited.
You’ll explore camera basics, lighting, sound, and visual storytelling through demonstrations, group exercises, and hands-on filming.
No experience or professional equipment needed!
Guided by Instructor Britt McTammany, an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer, the workshop unfolds in a supportive, low-pressure setting.
Whether you’ve always wanted to make a film or want to level up your videos, this workshop is the perfect launch pad.
You don’t need a script or a plan. Just bring your curiosity.
How It Works
- Arrive. Check in, meet Instructor Britt, then grab a drink or snack and settle in.
- Learn the basics. Discover how framing, camera angles, lighting, and sound shape every scene, with live demonstrations along the way.
- Get hands-on. Work together as a crew to plan and film a scene using studio cameras and lights. No homework, no prep.
- Wrap up. See how editing, sound design, and color bring it all together, then ask questions and leave with skills you can use right away.
Never picked up a camera? No problem! No professional equipment is needed, but we do recommend bringing a smartphone that can shoot video. Britt will introduce the free Blackmagic Camera app for iPhone and most newer Android phones. You're welcome to download it ahead of time, or wait until the workshop once you've seen how it works.
